As we mentioned here, The Wife starts a run on Mzansi Magic this Monday 12 September at 21h30, with new episodes Mondays to Wednesdays.
Seasons 1 and 2 aired on Showmax and now its airing on linear TV before Season 3, which streams on Showmax in November.
The series is based on the trilogy of books by Dudu Busani-Dube: Hlomu the Wife, Zandile the Resolute and Naledi His Love, so the lead characters of each season are different.
The show follows the same stylistic elements as the books in that some of the characters from one season re-appear in another season with notably different sized roles e.g. the eldest Zulu brother Nkosana, played by Mondli Makhoba, has a recurring role in Season 1 and he’s the main character in Season 2, opposite Khanyi Mbau who plays Zandile.

Episode 1
It’s an eventful day for Hlomu when she is swept off her feet by an eccentric and charming Mqhele. Hlomu’s career is set to take off when she is assigned the crime bust of her life.
Tuesday 13 September 2023
Episode 2
Mqhele is head over heels for Hlomu, but is disrupted to learn that the love of his life is a woman spoken for. This causes him to show up unexpectedly at Hlomu’s apartment, literally bumping into an annoyed Sandile.
Wednesday 14 September 2023
Episode 3
Mqhele takes Hlomu out on an extraordinary date and shows her the other side of life, something that Sandile has never done for Hlomu before.
Monday 19 September 2023
Episode 4
All that’s running through Hlomu’s head is the new man in her life, Mqhele, but his silence is too frustrating to a point that Hlomu feels she needs counseling from her brother, Langa.
Tuesday 20 September 2023
Episode 5
With Mqhele MIA, an annoyed Hlomu finally decides to break things off with him. This is just before Lux sends her off to cover a service delivery protest story, in which Hlomu gets injured.
Wednesday 21 September 2023
Episode 6
A very certain Hlomu decides to lose her virginity to Mqhele and break things off with Sandile. However, Sandile is not ready to break up with the love of his life.
Monday 26 September 2023
Episode 7
Hlomu finally meets all the Zulu brothers officially at a family braai and for the first time she gets a taste of how truly different the life she has chosen is.
Tuesday 27 September 2023
Episode 8
Hlomu finds herself having to justify her choices and her life when her twin brother Langa comes to town.
Wednesday 28 September 2023
Episode 9
Hlomu and Mqhele have their first fight and she sees a side of Mqhele, which makes her question whether she made the right choice.
The Wife airs on Mzansi Magic from Mondays to Wednesdays at 21h30.
